At 14:00 local time on 2 December, the 2024 “Invest Shanghai – Global Roadshow” series of activities (Australian stop) was successfully held in Sydney. With the theme “Link Shanghai with the World Together Shared the Future”, the event aimed to promote Shanghai’s opening-up to the outside world at a higher level, attract and use foreign investment with greater strength, and promote cross-regional exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai and international industries. Secretary Cheng Peng said in his speech that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Australia, and China has been Australia’s number one trading partner, export market and source of imports for 15 consecutive years, and the two countries have become increasingly close in their exchanges and deep friendship. Since 1921, when Australia set up a trade office in Shanghai, Shanghai, as an important bridge for China-Australia co-operation, has established and maintained friendly relations with the states of Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales, with fruitful co-operation results. At present, Shanghai is accelerating the implementation of the Lingang New Area, Yangtze River Delta integration, Hongqiao International Open Hub and other national strategies, and is making every effort to build a (2+2) + (3+6) + (4+5) modern industrial system, and continue to build a more market-oriented, rule of law, internationalised, first-class business environment, Shanghai will, as always, fully support the global enterprises to invest in Shanghai with confidence and grow stronger, and welcome more Australian enterprises to invest and prosper in Shanghai. Ye Wei, Commercial Counsellor, Economic and Commercial Section of the Chinese Consulate General in Sydney, said in his speech that China’s continuous deepening of reforms and promotion of Chinese-style modernisation provide new development opportunities for countries around the world, including Australia. Shanghai is a model of China’s dynamism and innovation, and has always been favoured by global investors, including Australia. We hope that Australian companies will further strengthen their confidence in developing in China and place good projects and new business in China and Shanghai. Andrew Ferguson, Member of Parliament for Canada Bay, New South Wales, Australia, said Shanghai is the centre of China’s economy, China Minmetals, Baowu Group and Bright Food Group all have investments and industrial cooperation in Australia, and many well-known Australian companies prefer Shanghai for investment in China. During the sharing session, Jim Haiyan, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Investment Service Centre, made a presentation on the theme of ‘Investing in Shanghai’, sharing the development advantages of Shanghai in terms of industrial foundation, spatial resources and innovation ecology from four dimensions, namely, City of Innovation, City of Opportunities, City of Openness and City of Dreams, and introducing key industrial sectors such as green low-carbon, bio-medicine, fashion consumer goods and other key industrial investment opportunities. Jiang Juwang, Director of Jinshan Investment Promotion Office, made a presentation on the theme of ‘Investing in Jinshan’, focusing on modern agriculture, culture and tourism industry and other areas to share the opportunities for investment and co-operation between the two sides, Jinshan District, as the south-western gateway to Shanghai, is gradually developing into an important gateway city in the Yangtze River Delta region and a strategic pivot of the Shanghai metropolitan area. Sze Ming Teng, CEO of Aujabao Group, as a representative of key enterprises, shared the development history of Blackmores’ business expansion since it entered the Chinese market in 2012, and its sales in China have reached 40 per cent of the global market sales at present. He expressed that he is very optimistic about the development in China, and will plough into China in the future, further expanding the business layout in Shanghai, in order to better serve customers and grasp the market opportunities.
